Dear Friends
At last we are enjoying something like a nice, hot summer
and there is even a danger of an English success at Wimbledon. Things are
looking up after a number of confusing weeks.
The Marist Lourdes
Pilgrimage proved to be a great success and we enjoyed some good weather for
a change. However we were all brought back to reality when Keith Newton,
Loughborough, died suddenly during the Wednesday night. Our last two days in
Lourdes were more reflective and understanding of our pilgrimage through
life. May he rest in Peace. Amen
YOUR CHARITABLE PRAYERS Are requested for:
Charles Jenkinson, Hull, who was buried on Tuesday 30th
June. Charles, who was a most dedicated member of the Marist Way and a
founder member of the ‘Council for the Marist Way’, was a multi talented
person and shortly before his death, wrote: "Marist Way" is a True name & a
True Way, which is reproduced in this month’s ‘Marian Devotions’.
Kevin O’Connor, Pat’s husband, will be buried in
Middlesbrough on Monday 6th July. Kevin, who was a great
supporter of all things Marist, had been in ITU for over seven weeks, died
25th June.
We extend to both Rose (Jenkinson) and Pat our deepest
sympathy and assure them of our prayers at this most difficult time. May
Charles and Kevin rest in Peace. Amen.
MARIST DAY In Walsingham is Saturday 4th
July. This is always a wonderful occasion to gather together in the spirit
of Mary and share with each other in the mass and prayerful atmosphere of
the ‘Nazareth of England’. The principal celebrant will be Fr John Hannon
SM, European Provincial, who will begin his visitation of the Marist Fathers
communities in England.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE GENERAL CHAPTER OF THE MARIST FATHERS
which will take place in Rome during September. The General Chapter is a
serious assessment of the all the works and ideals of the Society during
which a new Fr. General will be elected. Consideration will be given to the
Marist Way, which could well lead to a better understanding of Fr Colin’s
vision of ‘the whole world Marist’.
The recently founded group in Grimethorpe continues to
flourish and we hope that they will be able to attend the Marist Day of
Recollection in September. The next meeting of the Council for the Marist
Way will meet in ND Leicester Square on Monday 13th July.
