The Province of Europe of the Marist Fathers came in to being with a special celebration at Fourviere, Lyons, on Sunday 1st June 2008. Members of the Delegation of Great Britain met in Leeds to mark the closing of the Delegation and the beginning of the Region of Europe. It was a very pleasant few days and Fr Noel Wynn SM was nominated as Regional Superior as from 1st August. At this stage there are many more questions than answers as to the future. One thing is certain – the taxation regulations vary from country to country. This Region will continue the charitable status of the former Delegation for all tax purposes.

MARIST SISTERS                                Invite everyone to celebrate with them the arrival of  the Sisters in St Anne’s, Whitechapel in 1858. A mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at 12 noon on Wednesday 23rd July – the very time the Sisters arrived – in St Anne’s, Underwood Road, LONDON E1, followed by refreshments. If you wish to attend please contact Sr Brigid 01302 329783.

MARIST DAY IN WALSINGHAM Will be Saturday 5th July starting with mass at 12.00. Fr Keith Tulloch SM (Japan) will be the principal celebrant. The Benediction in the grounds of Elham House at 4.15pm will be followed by tea and cakes. Please arrange to leave Walsingham about 5.30pm so that we can enjoy each other’s company.

 

 

 

 

 

 

MARIST PILGRIMAGES

FATIMA, SANTIAGO de COMPOSTELA, BURGOS 18th / 27th July. Travel by coach and Cruise on "Pride of Bilbao". 3 nights Fatima, 2 nights Compostela, 1 night Burgos. 3 nights De Luxe cabin on "Pride of Bilbao". Cost ₤665.00 (includes insurance).

This year was the 30th Annual Marist Pilgrimage to Lourdes. 120 pilgrims travelled to Lourdes 93 by coach and 27 by air. It was also 150th Anniversary of the apparitions and to say that Lourdes was crowded would be an understatement. The weather was indifferent, to say the least, but the spirit of the pilgrimage was truly remarkable. Our closing ceremony, when we blessed our candle, was simple, dignified and, of course, in the rain!! My new knee survived due to the use of an electric scooter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 DAYS OF RECOLLECTION Some progress has been made with the following arrangements:- Middlesbrough, Sept 21st, Goldthorpe, Sept 28th, London (Upper Holloway) Oct 5th, Walsingham either Sat, Oct 4th or Monday Oct 6th. The theme this year will be Jean-Claude Colin SM,Founder of the Marist Fathers. PowerPoint presentations will be given along with some reflections on the Marist Spirit and Charism.

Leaders and another member of each group are invited to a time of "Formation" 3rd / 5th December 2008 in Walsingham. This is part of our ongoing work to promote the work and spirituality of Mary in the Church. Before we commit ourselves to booking we need to be sure that members are interested.
