On Saturday 26^th May 1979 100 intrepid souls set off from Hull on a pilgrimage by coach to Lourdes. It was the time before motorways and an evening meal had to be arranged in Paris. The journey took over thirty three hours, but it was the beginning of a great tradition. This year, 2008, the Thirtieth Marist Pilgrimage will leave Hull for Lourdes. Various conditions have improved and we should be in Lourdes within twenty four hours. This year is a year of CELEBRATION – the 150^th Anniversary of the Apparitions in Lourdes and the 30^th Anniversary of the Marist Pilgrimage. And celebrate we will. The pilgrimage will be extended by a full day to incorporate a Mass of Thanksgiving and a Celebratory Dinner. There will be a special competition for the youngsters and many memories will be revived. Make sure that you book early for LOURDES 2008.

When I was planning the first Marist Pilgrimage from Hull in 1979 I was very keen that pilgrims should appreciate something of Ste Bernadette and also the history of Lourdes. In recent years we have returned to our original plan. We celebrated mass in Bartres and included the Lourdes film in our programme, which is well worth watching and has helped us to appreciate more fully the great events that have taken place in Lourdes. In our 30^th ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMAGE we will follow a similar programme.
