Dear Friends

 Despite some very busy weeks recently the Days of Recollection got underway. On Sunday 21st September forty people attended in Middlesbrough and this included the group from Wallsend plus a member from Durham. The theme this year is “Jean-Claude Colin SM, Founder of the Marist Fathers”. It was decided that PowerPoint presentations would be given and these proved to be highly successful. In the morning session a reasonably comprehensive account of the life of Jean-Claude was given along with some reflections on the Marist Spirit and Charism. After lunch “A Marist Spirituality for the Present Day” led to some deep sharing of experiences and hopes for the future. Mass was celebrated at 3.30pm followed by an excellent ‘high tea’. Clare Leeder from Walsingham attended as the ‘Council Member”.

 The following Sunday, 28th September, fifty members gathered in Goldthorpe and I was thrilled to meet groups from Goldthorpe; different areas of Sheffield; and for the first time Grimethorpe and Blackburn; along with members from Askern and Doncaster. This was a great event, especially as I had thought that the Marist way was dying out in this area. How wrong I was. The day followed the same programme as the previous week with the addition of Brian Salmon’s presentation of “Being Marists Today”.   During mass we were delighted to welcome Brenda Davis, Theresa Swindells and Margaret Howitt who made their Dedication in the Marist Way . Agnes McGrogan and Pat O’Connor attended as the ‘Council Members’.

 Sunday 4th October the meeting will be in Upper Holloway and Monday 5th October in Walsingham. I am looking forward to these important events when we gather together and remind ourselves, through friendship and prayer, that “It is by a special grace that we are called to be Marists” and must strive to be worthy of our calling.
