Dear Friends
When I wrote the last Newsletter we were
anticipating a good summer and a victory at Wimbledon. I must apologise to all our Scottish members
for inferring that Andy Murray was English, but the prospect of such a success
at Wimbledon turned my mind from the truth and
I now hope for a Scottish success next year. Our Marist day in Walsingham was
blessed with very good weather and we were all inspired by the words of Fr John
Hannan SM , European Provincial, as he spoke of Marists in the modern world.
43 Marist Fathers from
Europe gathered in La Neyliere on 18th July for a retreat
preached by Fr Justin Taylor SM in which he explored the origins of Fr Colin’s
thoughts in founding the Society of Mary. The retreat was conducted in silence
and was a great opportunity for members of
Europe to be together and consider the ‘Spirit
of the Society of Mary’.
Delegates for the General chapter
assembled in Rome
and began four days of preparatory work on 28th August with the
Chapter officially opening on Tuesday 1st September. Some members of
the Marist Way
have been invited to attend a session of the Chapter on Friday 11th
September and to share the vision of the Marist Way with the members of the
Chapter. One of the major works of the Chapter will be to elect a new Fr General
and General Administration and to set out a vision for the Society of Mary in
the coming years.
MARIST PILGRIMAGES
Next May seems a long time away but it
is surprising how quickly time passes. The Marist Lourdes Pilgrimage will depart
by coach on Saturday 29th May and return Saturday 5th
June. The cost will be around £10 more than last year, which were – Hotel Padoue
£505.00 and Hotel Esplanade £375.00. This includes coach travel, full board and
travel insurance. More details later.

the Marist Way.

for the day will be £5.00.
