 Dear Friends

Sorry for the delayed Newsletter. I have been somewhat preoccupied over the past few months because my brother has  cancer of the oesophagus and had to undergo a very serious operation at the beginning of September. There have been a few set backs but,   so far, the operation has been successful. Many prayers would be much appreciated. Stephen and Claire Leeder, Walsingham, have both had serious health problems and no doubt we could fill all the pages with  requests for prayers. It is important that we remember to pray for all members of the Marist Way.

MARIST DAY IN WALSINGHAM Was a very pleasant experience and well attended. Fr Martin McAnaney SM was                                                                    the principal  celebrant and preached at the mass.

There was:

1) welcome, 2)mass and 3)temptation (?) .

TURIN CONFERENCE                        24 members of the Marist Way set off from Stansted to attend the conference, "Happy to be Marist", in Turin. 108 delegates from all   parts of Europe  gathered together and, despite language difficulties, enjoyed a wonderful experience –  a detailed report is available on the website.           The thing that struck me most was the different experience of "church" spoken of from the various countries.    It was a very good event and the only concrete resolution was that all members

of the Marist Way should be encouraged to make the conscious effort to                                                                    recite Our Lady’s "Magnificat" to thank God for all His goodness and                                                                    blessings at the end of each day.

The Conference was quite intense and finished at 5.30 pm on Sunday 26th August. At 8 am on Monday the English delegates set off by coach through the Frejus Tunnel and, after a wonderful drive, arrived in Lyon at 1 pm – just nice time for lunch. We visited the Cathedral and Fourviere before driving to La Neyliere for our two night’s stay.

This was much appreciated for we were able to

spend time with the Marist Brothers at L’Ermitage

and celebrate mass near the tomb of Fr Colin SM.

WEBSITE As reported last month we now have a website. – http://www.maristway.org and a special Email address to go with it – webmaster@maristway.org. If you haven’t access to the internet it is well worthwhile asking somebody who does have access if you can look at our site. There are all sorts of interesting items there – even the Newsletter in colour!! If people would like to contribute simply contact the Webmaster at the Email address.

DAYS OF RECOLLECTION The theme for this year is ‘The Life of Marcellin Champagnat SM, Founder of the Marist Brothers. Mr Karl McCloskey inspired people from Hythe, Sidcup, White City, Upper Holloway and Sunninghill on Sunday 16th September. On 9th September Fr Alan Williams SM, addressed a meeting in Sidcup which was attended by people from Whitechapel. On Saturday 22nd September the Walsingham groups will have their meeting and on Sunday 14th October Wallsend will host a meeting for members from Hull, Middlesbrough, Sheffield and the north of England. This meeting was arranged for Sunday 29th September and we then found out that Wallsend would be cut off because of the ‘Great North Run’ – such is life!
